what is HSK?
HSK stands for Hànyǔ (Chinese) Shuǐpíng (level) Kǎoshì (test), the Pinyin* version of 汉语水平考试. It is China's only official test for Chinese language proficiency for non-native speakers. The HSK consists of 6 levels, from HSK1 to HSK6. The result of the exam is widely recognised and accepted internationally.
The test is administered by Hanban, an agency of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. It is also in charge of the Confucius Institutes.
*Pinyin: the official romanization system for Standard Mandarin Chinese
The result of HSK tests can be used to…
define your Mandarin level
prove Chinese language proficiency to employers
to apply for Confucius Institute Scholarships (CIS).
Apply for universities in China
